1-new - oneCaesar Steak Tartare at Nighthawks
Nighthawks has the best chopped steak tartare I’ve eaten worldwide. I’m not sure if it was the fab texture (steak is chopped into little squares vs. ground and pasty) or the vast layers of flavor or the garlic breadcrumbs on the top. It was darn good, and I dream about eating more.

2-new - twoRadishes in Brown Butter at The Bachelor Farmer
The Bachelor Farmer’s rooftop garden helps to keep the restaurant in tune with the natural passage of the seasons, and right now it’s giving up a fresh bounty of radishes. They were served simply, merely plopped into a warm brown butter sauce, and they tasted fresh and lively and pure, leaves and all.

buttered-tin-mug3-new - threeBiscuits and Gravy at The Buttered Tin
For my money, Buttered Tin has the best breakfast in St. Paul, and the biscuits and gravy are a standout. Remarkable biscuits cradle a pair of expertly poached eggs covered in a sage-sausage gravy that adds a whole other level of Thanksgivinglike comfort. They’re the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had in the Cities, and — it pains me to say it — they’re even better than Sun Street Breads’.

4-new fourTap Dancer Cold Press Coffee at Sebastian Joe’s
This spring I found a coffee that changed not only my morning drink routine but my route to work. Sebastian Joe’s brews up vats of its Tap Dancer cold press and serves it on tap at its Uptown location. (Cold press, but not on tap is available at Linden Hills.) It’s strong (I finally wised up and ordered it half-strength after a few jittery days), rich, and has just enough bite — for people who actually like the flavor of coffee.

5-new -fiveBeers from Eastlake Craft Brewery and Tacos from Sonora Grill at Midtown Global Market
Tapas my way: Sonora Grill tacos and Eastlake beer inside the Midtown Global Market. The best way to start your Friday evening.
