Oh that is bad news. I had really wanted to try that place. I’ve lived in Saint Paul for a little less than 2 years and I hadn’t quite gotten to that place yet. I am disappointed to hear that.
I have been wondering if the economy will shut down more and more restaurants on the fancier side of cuisine. I know some less expensive places have shut down as well, but the fine dining scene seems to be the one I worry more about.
I wish they would have announced the restaurant was closing earlier so that fans/people that hadn’t been there could have had one last hurrah.
I ate at Fugaise for the first time on it’s last night of business and had an amazing meal. If it had not been announced I would have missed out eating some of Chef Saunder’s amazing food. By the way I had kangaroo. Very delicious i may add.
I am really disapoointed to hear that! My husband and I would make the trek down from northern MN each year for the fantastic morel experiences we enjoyed. Since it was getting close to “that time of year” I decided to check the website and I couldn’t believe my eyes! What a loss! I do hope that the chef finds success somewhere in the area, so we can continue to be blessed with his wonderful offerings!
Morel fest is available at the Old Village Hall Restaurant
located in Lanesboro, Minnesota. 507-467-2962
Thanks for the update. I’m glad to hear it and will be resuming my pilgrimages!
We purchased a (very expensive!!) gift certificate for our parents 60th bithday present. Any idea if we can get a refund? This is really disappointing!
There’s nothing on the site about gift certificates, unfortunately. I’d start by emailing info@bayportcookery.com, and then see if you can track down Chef/Owner Jim Kyndberg personally. After that, if you charged it to a credit card, you might inquire with the company about having the charges reversed.
The chef/owner from the Bayport Cookery is now working at The Kitchen, formerly known as Stone’s in Stillwater. : http://www.thekitchenstillwater.com/
Anyone know if Sarah was successful in receiving a refund for her gift certificate? I am in the same boat. We purchased a rather expensive gift certificate for my aunt’s wedding gift. I sent an e-mail but the e-mail address is no longer valid. I’m sad to hear the restaurant closed, as I never had the chance to try it, but had heard so many good things about it.
