The Minnesota State Fair really outdid itself this year — record heat, record attendance, and a record number of new foods debuted to the masses. We were there and saw it for ourselves, but we really loved seeing it through your eyes for the 2013 State Fair Food Photography Contest.

Contest entries in the contest were varied — from the grease pits of the mini doughnut stand to soaring views of iconic food stands from above. We also saw some fantastic artistic expressions — old juxtaposed with the new, interesting crops, ingredients set against the food offerings. Thank you to all the entrants for allowing us to see the Minnesota State Fair food scene in a whole new light.

We’re also very thankful for our judges, Katie Cannon (Heavy Table photographer, Minnesota Cooks calendar photographer), Stephanie Meyer (food blogger, writer, and photographer for Minnesota Monthly, Food & Wine, Fresh Tart), Laurie Crowell (proprietor of The Golden Fig), and Drew Ditlefsen (Peace Coffee Bike Deliverer). As well, to our contest sponsors who donated so many wonderful prizes*, The Golden Fig, Peace Coffee, Barbette, Pat’s Tap, and the Red Stag.

1st Prize: Video – The Shash

* Please note that due to low submission rate for video, we have altered the prize categories as follows:

Grand Prize: $100 gift certificate to The Golden Fig, a $50 gift card to Barbette, 2 Pre-Nosh tickets to the next North Coast Nosh (value: $120), and a Heavy Table State Fair Wrecking Crew T-shirt.

1st Prize (one for each category ): A gift basket from the Golden Fig ($40 value) and a $50 gift card for the Red Stag (for video) or Pat’s Tap (for still)

2nd Prize (still only): 2 tickets to the next North Coast Nosh and a Peace Coffee gift pack (either a $50 gift card to Peace Coffee’s Wonderland Park Cafe
