Between losing most of their fair-weather customers and having to throw out frozen, still-growing fresh produce, farmers were hit hard by this year’s early cold snap. @KatieBips urges you to support your farmer — the season’s not quite over yet! @ZacharyCohen recommends a 2000-vintage rioja, @Barrio_Mpls celebrates its selection as one of MNMO’s “Best Bars of 2009,” @Solera_MN wants you to try their “Spanish ratatouille,” and @BrauBeer is brewing today to try to keep up with high demand for two of their offerings, Sheephead and Ring Neck.

Thanks to Katie to calling attention to a real problem affecting many growers.

Many growers at area farmers markets were hurt bad by the weather this year. Even apple growers had damage to their fruit which is very unusual during harvest. The weather affected many growers in different ways. Sometimes just the poor weather in July hurt market attendance and subsequent sales for summer crops.

The Mpls Farmers Market is open until Xmas and we still have a wide array of late season veggies, apples, and farmstead products.

Come out and support a local grower the next several weekends while the weather is still reasonable!
