The Minnesota Congressional Hotdish Digest

In the wake of the Al Franken-initiated hotdish cookoff contest, WCCO has rounded up the various hotdish recipes of the Minnesota Congressional delegation (each on their own handy page, thanks a bundle). So, you’ve got Rep. Tim Walz and his chicken mushroom wild rice hotdish, Rep. Keith Ellison’s tuna noodle casserole, Rep. Michele Bachmann’s Minnesota Oktoberfeast, Rep. Betty McCollum’s pork, cranberry and wild rice casserole, Sen. Al Franken’s wild rice and turkey hot dish, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s Taconite Tater Tot Hot Dish. The winner? Sen. Klobuchar, followed by runner-up Rep. Walz.

Of course the Tater Tot Hotdish would win! We are from MN, after all. A bold move by Sen. Klobuchar to omit any vegetable!

I must say I’m disappointed that not one of these are vegetarian, especially since it’s entirely possible to make a mean wild rice or tater tot hot dish without meat.

It’s disappointing, though I suppose not surprising, that the recipe involving cans of this and a bag of that was the winner. I don’t agree with Bachmann’s politics in the least, but kudos to her inclusion of fresh and local ingredients in her recipe. The same with McCollum.

I’m glad the MN congressional delegation did this. Food unites us. It’s powerful.
