The Heavy Table and underwriting sponsor Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board are looking for your best photos of the food scene at the 2014 Minnesota State Fair. Take creative shots of food, beverages, and vendors in action, and enter them for a chance to win prizes! Ideal shots will capture the flavor of the fair with originality and deliciousness.
Details and prizes (courtesy of the WMMB) are listed below. Submissions are due by 10pm on Monday, Sept. 1. Winners will be announced Tuesday morning, Sept. 9.
Your entries will be judged by Becca Dilley (Heavy Table photographer, photographer of Lake Superior Flavors and The Master Cheesemakers of Wisconsin), Heather Porter Engwall of the WMMB, producer Arthur Ircink of Wisconsin Foodie, and Mette Nielsen (photographer of The Spoonriver Cookbook and Minnesota’s Bounty).
All camera media are eligible for entry into our still photography category, but they must be submitted digitally. To enter, use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, or Flickr to share your photos with the #HTSF2014 hashtag.
CATEGORIES
GENERAL: Any shot of food, drink, food-related signage, or other food-related thing (ingredients, purveyors, people cooking, menus, etc.) that happens to catch your eye at the State Fair. We’re looking for original ideas, creative angles and lighting, and photos that capture the mood and feel of the fair day or night.
DAIRY: This special category celebrates food photos with a dairy emphasis — ice cream, milk, cheese curds, cheese-topped food (etc.) are all eligible. Dairy should be a major visual component of the food or beverage in question: a dish covered in a sauce that uses some heavy cream would be a bridge too fair.
PRIZES
Grand Prize: A magnificent, delicious, 20-pound wheel of SarVecchio Parmesan Cheese by Sartori of Wisconsin
1st Prize (one for each category): An assortment of six great Wisconsin cheeses, 1 pound of artisan bacon, and The Master Cheesemakers of Wisconsin
2nd Prize (one for each category): A drafted blade ULTEM cheese knife and three great Wisconsin cheeses
3rd Prize (one for each category): A glass Wisconsin cheese cutting board
RULES AND OTHER DETAILS
All photos must be taken during the 2014 Minnesota State Fair: Thursday, Aug. 21, through Monday, Sept. 1.
All photos must pertain to the Minnesota State Fair food scene.
We’ll accept up to three entries per category per person.
They can be three shots of the same food or beverage, or three shots of three different foods, or anything in between.
All still photos must be single images; no collages will be permitted.
Winning photos may be reprinted on heavytable.com and its derivative works (social media, etc.) but you retain overall image rights.
With your name credited, we may reprint any photo you enter in a roundup of the best contest entries and / or to illustrate other stories.
Heavy Table staffers, judges, and their immediate family members are not eligible.
All entries must be submitted online by 10pm on Monday, Sept. 1.
