At today’s meeting of the Minneapolis City Council, a proposal to expand street food vending in downtown Minneapolis passed by a unanimous vote. The measure, proposed by Councilmember Lisa Goodman, will take effect on May 1, 2010, and will allow a set number of commercial kitchen license-holding vendors to operate motorized food carts in specific, permanent areas downtown. Hope to see and smell Cart La Grassa soon by the New Twins Target Field! Oh the wind blowing truffle and bacon over home plate is sure to be another homerun!
I am so glad to see that food street carts will be allowed in downtown Mpls. I have been to Portland OR and have witnessed the value these carts bring to the vitality of an inner city. I just wish it wasn’t excluded to people with a commercial kitchen license. The entrepreneurs will not be able to participate in this job creating endeavor. Which will limit the variety of food offered. This is a good start but I hope will be expanded to all that have so much more to offer.
