Big Wood Brewery hopes to set up a taproom in White Bear Lake (zoning code update required), Northgate Brewing is opening early this fall in Northeast and will make English session beers, DeRusha digs Cafe Levain and praises the short rib burger, a construction boom in Lowertown could bring some new restaurants and bars, Madison will soon be home to a local grenadine by Quince and Apple and a Death’s Door Spirits distillery, and why you should grill clams, cheese, and other crazy stuff.
Smashburger’s St. Anthony restaurant opens May 9; in the meantime, they’re whetting appetites by announcing two Minnesota-only menu offerings. The Twin Cities Smashburger is an Angus beef burger topped with melted cheddar cheese, Swiss cheese, and garlic grilled onions with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise on a butter-toasted onion bun. The Tailgate Smashbrat is a Johnsonville Beer Bratwurst split and seared on the grill, topped with garlic grilled onions, spicy brown mustard, and melted cheddar cheese on a lightly toasted poppy seed bun.

I don’t really get how either of these items represent Minnesota. The first one seems completely non-sequitur, and the second sounds much more like a Wisconsin thing to me. Go Pack.
