It’s time for the Minnesota State Fair! We can’t wait to delve into the deliciousness that this “holiday” brings, and we also can’t wait to see the Fair through your eyes … or, rather, your camera lens.
The Heavy Table is looking for your best photos and short videos of the food scene at the 2013 Fair. Take creative shots of food, beverages, and vendors in action and enter them for a chance to win prizes! Ideal shots will capture the flavor of the Fair with originality and deliciousness.
Details and prizes (courtesy of The Golden Fig, Peace Coffee, Barbette, Pat’s Tap, and the Red Stag) are listed below. Submissions are due by 10pm on Monday, Sept. 2. Winners announced Thursday morning, Sept. 5.
Your entries will be judged by Katie Cannon (Heavy Table photographer, Minnesota Cooks calendar photographer), Stephanie Meyer (food blogger, writer, and photographer for Minnesota Monthly, Food & Wine, Fresh Tart), Laurie Crowell (proprietor of The Golden Fig), and Drew Ditlefsen (Peace Coffee Bike Deliverer).
CATEGORIES
STILL: All camera mediums are eligible for entry into our still photography category, but they must be submitted digitally. Use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, or Flickr to share your photos with the #HTSF2013 hashtag to enter.
VIDEO: Shoot a video short of your favorite Minnesota State Fair food moment and post it on Instagram or Vine with the #HTSF2013 hashtag to enter. All videos must be less than 15 seconds.
PRIZES
Grand Prize: $100 gift certificate to The Golden Fig, a $50 gift card to Barbette, 2 Pre-Nosh tickets to the next North Coast Nosh (value: $120), and a Heavy Table State Fair Wrecking Crew T-shirt.
1st Prize (one for each category): A gift basket from the Golden Fig ($40 value) and a $50 gift card for the Red Stag (for video) or Pat’s Tap (for still)
2nd Prize (one for each category): 2 tickets to the next North Coast Nosh and a Peace Coffee gift pack (either a $50 gift card to Peace Coffee’s Wonderland Park Cafe (for still), or a Toddy Maker, Bag of Yeti Cold Press beans, Yeti water bottle, Yeti poster, and two spots at Peace Coffee’s mastering coffee at home class (for video))
3rd Prize (one for each category): 2 tickets to the next North Coast Nosh
RULES AND OTHER DETAILS
All photos must be taken during the 2013 Minnesota State Fair — Thursday, August 22, through Monday, September 2.
All photos must pertain to the Minnesota State Fair food scene.
We’ll accept up to three entries per category per person.
They can be three shots of the same food or beverage, or three shots of three different foods, or anything in between.
All still photos must be single images; no collages will be permitted.
Winning photos may be reprinted on heavytable.com and its derivative works (social media, etc.) but you retain overall image rights.
With your name credited, we may reprint any photo entered in a roundup of the best contest entries and / or to illustrate other stories.
Heavy Table staffers, judges, and their immediate family members are not eligible.
All entries must be submitted online by 10pm on Monday, September 2.
